I'm not a /b/tard. I'm not an /i/nsurgent. Hell, I really only visit 4chan for /h/, /u/, and /d/ anyway. But I know lulz when I see them.

On January 16th, 2008, Anonymous of the *chan boards declared war on the Church of Scientology. This was brought about when the CoS demanded that Youtube take down a video of Tom Cruise raving about Scientology in a very .. unflattering way. Anonymous has decried this censorship, claiming "the extent of your malign influence over those who trust you, who call you leader, has been made clear to us," and "Anonymous has therefore decided that your organization should be destroyed." I have been following the events closely--some would say obsessively--since yesterday morning at 7am. Anonymous is uniting. Anonymous is organizing. This is not a handful of people prank calling 800 numbers. This is not someone creating a sockpuppet account or two to troll a forum. There's some seriously epic (and scary) shit going on. I suggest that even if you don't agree with it, you read up on it. This is the end of "Internets are not serious business." This is the end of RL and OL rarely crossing paths.

I'm not going to get involved--I'm too much of an armchair politician, and I don't have the balls to get myself mixed up with some of the biggest trolls in the history of ever. I will, however, continue to talk about it. Whether you think Anonymous is a heartless beast no better than it's quarry, or whether you think Scientology is just as valid a target for their own "fair game" tactics, you should know what's going on.
